How Stress Affects Women's Health

When your amygdala perceives danger (whether it’s a real emergency or just a hectic work deadline), it signals the HPA Axis to release stress hormones. This sets off the “fight-or-flight” response, and can be any type of stress that is ongoing, kids, a divorce, or even loss of a loved one that you can't get over.


But here’s the part most people don’t know:
In response to your environment, your brain also produces brain waves — electrical impulses that shape how you think, feel, and behave.

BETA WAVES:
13-30 Hz

Active thinking, problem-solving, and high alertness. Helps with cognitive tasks but can increase stress if overactive.

ALPHA WAVES:
8–13 Hz

Calm and relaxed, but awake and alert. Promotes stress relief, focus, and a sense of well-being.


THETA WAVES:
4–8 Hz

Light sleep, deep relaxation, and meditation. Enhances creativity, intuition, and access to the subconscious mind.

DELTA WAVES:
0.5–4 Hz

Different brainwave frequencies are associated with different states of consciousness. But spending too much time in the beta brainwave state (13–30 Hz) is where many professional women and busy moms get stuck.


That’s because prolonged beta activity overstimulates the brain, leading to mental, emotional, and physical struggles that keep you from feeling your best or losing weight.
